9-The grammarian and the boatman

A GRAMMARIAN once embarked in a boat. Turning to the boatman with a self-satisfied air he asked him:

            ‘Have you ever studied grammar?’

            ‘No,’ replied the boatman.

‘Then half your life has gone to waste,’ the grammarian said.

The boatman thereupon felt very depressed, but he answered him nothing for the moment. Presently the wind tossed the boat into a whirlpool. The boatman shouted to the grammarian:

‘Do you know how to swim?’

‘No’ the grammarian replied, ‘my well-spoken, handsome fellow’.

‘In that case, grammarian,’ the boatman remarked, ‘the whole of your life has gone to waste, for the boat is sinking in these whirlpools.’

You may be the greatest scholar in the world in your time, but consider, my friend, how the world passes away - and time!

Zakat is an Important & Obligatory Charity in Islam

As all we know that Islam is not only a religion but a complete code of conduct in life. From it we can find the guidance about anything happens in our lives
A beautiful concept in Islam i.e. Zakat is regarded as one of the five basic pillars of Islam. Basically Zakat means ‘purity’ and ‘growth’. According to the teachings of Islam the actual meaning of zakat will be:

“The mandatory act for every wealthy Muslim in which one has to give a considered amount of money to needy people of the society according to the teaching of Islam (The Holy Quran and hadith)”

It should be given to the deserving receivers as mentioned in Islam
Zakat is an obligatory charity hence Purifies one`s wealth and Inner also. Giving Zakat is very important in Islam and those who don’t follow the Orders of Allah Almighty related to Zakat will have to face severe penalties at Dooms day

Let us Consider the Translation Of Verses Of Surah Al Anbya:

“And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us.”Reference

From the translation we can make a clear concept about that fact that Allah Almighty emphasizes
Doing good deeds, establishing Salah (prayers or nimaz in Urdu) and “Zakat”. Probably at seventy places in Quran, Zakat and Salah coexist.

Salah (prayer) and the mandatory charity i.e. Zakat are two different types of worship in Islam.
These worships has to be done physically and financially respectively.
Those who follow these instructions by ALLAH Almighty will receive great rewards but those who show carelessness towards it will have to suffer with a serious loss.
Quran Says:

Surah Al Asr

"By time, indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience." Reference

Conditions for Zakat:

Below are some conditions for the eligibility of Zakat on Muslim:

  • ·         All the Muslims either man or woman who are adult and fully conscious (aware) in their senses

  • ·         He should be free and should not a slave.

  • ·      If one possesses a specific amount of wealth that has been described by the Holy Prophet Peace Be Upon Him..

  • ·         Giving Zakat each year means the person should be possessing that specified amount or property equal to it for at least a whole a year

  • ·         It becomes compulsory for everyone mentioned above to pay zakat if he or she is having a 93.7 gm of Gold and 650 gm of Silver

Also you can find more details about Nisab-i-Zakat in numerous Islamic Books.

Conclusion:

From the above discussion all we should not forget is the day of judgment where we will be asked for all our deeds and acts therefore never forget to ignore Zakat along with other essential obligations and duties being a Muslim.
